1 First Time Author Mental Block

I strongly suggest all bloggers write and self-publish at least 1 eBook for Amazon Kindle.

The benefits are immense.

From boosting blog traffic – Amazon is basically a monstrous search engine for goods and you betcha folks will find your blog through the platform – to establishing your authority to finding a global channel through which to help folks, Amazon rocks.

I have written and self-published 126 eBooks as of this writing. Click the prior link to see my library.

One mental block seems to cripple first time authors quite a bit.

After receiving a few emails with this common theme I decided to share how to address and dissolve the block.

Watch this video as I discuss.

The Common Mental Block

Some aspiring authors pitch me on eBook topics.

These folks often send me 2 ideas.

First, they share a topic they feel passionate about. Then they explain how they fear if the topic will sell, if folks will actually buy the eBook.

Then the first time author shares a common topic they believe will sell. But in many cases, the writer does not feel passionate about the idea.

The mental block: fearing that the eBook topic you feel passionate about won’t sell.

The solution: choosing only eBook topics you feel passionate about because the passion is the exact indicator that the eBook will sell.

I tell folks that the very fact you feel passionate about the eBook title shows that other folks will dig it. The passion resonates with like minded folks and also helps you find communities of like-minded people who will enjoy and buy the eBook.

Fun, loving, passionate energies fuel your self-publishing journey. I promote my eBooks more freely and aggressively every single day. Why? My passion goads me to spread the word.

How to Create and Publish a Successful eBook

I wrote this eBook in 2014. I am promoting it today, nearly 3 and a half years beyond the publish date.

I love writing. I love sharing my tips to help you with your blogging and author journey. So I share my posts, eBooks and videos with you freely because my passion fuels my journey.

Doubt

Doubt is your biggest enemy. Doubt fuels the “will anybody buy this?” mental block because you fear out of the 7 billion people on earth that nobody else shares your specific passion. Doesn’t that sound ridiculous? Fear is like that. Fear cripples logic, dissolves passion and pulls you toward struggles and failure, away from ease and success.

Only self-publish books you feel passionate about. Your passion indicates that you are on the best-selling track. But you need to tie that passion to some pressing problem. Or perhaps, you can tie the passion to inspiring folks to live their dreams in some way, shape or form. Just hold that passion. This energy fuels your online journey.

The Mistake

As a first time – or established – self-published author, never choose a topic you do not feel passionate about. Avoid this common error consistent with picking a title solely on a reader need. Who cares if the reader wants what you have to offer if you do not care about the topic of the eBook?

Most self-published authors struggle to sell their eBooks because since they don’t passionately care about the topic of discussion, potential readers follow their lead, ignoring the eBook, mirroring their lifeless, bland, disinterested vibe back to them.

Follow your passion, first time authors.

You will align with inspired folks who dig what you have to offer and will also fuel yourself for this fun, freeing and sometimes uncomfortable writing journey.
