3 SEO Tips to Skyrocket Old Article Traffic in Under 30 Minutes

We all have been there where we saw a content piece, looked at rankings and felt something was odd about it. And it isn’t difficult to see what was wrong.

While we could all do hundreds of things to improve our on-page SEO and increase organic rankings. But there are some SEO tactics that take minutes to implement, and then there are some that take hours or even days.

And, the three that we will go through in this blog post would take you less than 30 minutes to implement.

Let’s see what these three tips are.

Tip #1: Include your main keywords in your title tag

It isn’t uncommon to come across a page on your website that is doing meta title wrong. Sometimes, people end up finding 30% to 50% of their content placed with wrong Title tags.

If you are unsure on what your title tag is, you can inspect your page and search via “Ctrl + F” (Cmd + F if you are on a Mac) for “title” in the console.

You would notice something like this show up

<head>

<title>Example Title</title>

</head>

The text “Example Title” would be the exact place where you’ll find the current meta title of your page.

Now let’s add keywords to your title and see what you should do/don’t here.

Meta title dos

While you may have 10+ important keywords that you think should definitely go there – Google thinks otherwise.

Instead, focus on keeping the title tag within the 60 character limit and use formulas like these to come up with a better and optimized title tag:

Main Keyword | Secondary keyword | Third Keyword (or Brand name)

Main Keyword – 10+ Secondary keyword | Brand name

Main Keyword, Secondary Keyword and Third Keyword – Brand name

Here’s an example of a couple of Ecommerce brands doing it in the right way.

Updating your Meta title with the right keywords not only helps you boost your SEO, but it also increases your CTR(clickthrough rates).

Tip #2: Incorporate hidden keywords from your search console into your content

To get the maximum relevant traffic, you need to cover everything that is relevant to the searcher’s intent. One really good way to do is to leverage your Google Search Console.

Google Search Console

All you have to do is to:

  1. Go and visit https://search.google.com/search-console/
  2. Then filter data by the page you’re trying to optimize
  3. See the keywords that your website visitors are using to reach your site
  4. Look for keywords you feel your website’s content isn’t well optimized for
  5. Make a list of these keywords
  6. Update your content

Takes less than 15 minutes from start to end, and depends on what kind of site you have (small, mid-size or large), but you can expect to achieve an improvement of more than 10% in your search traffic.

Also note that Google Search Console often shows you keywords that you can’t really find in other Analytics and Keyword research tool.

Tip #3: Add links throughout your website

The top 3 ranking factors in 2019 are:

  1. External Links
  2. Content quality
  3. Site structure

Interlinks are a big contribution to your site architecture and are often the invisible internal votes from website to Google.

The process of building interlinks is more scientific than one thinks. You’ve to follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Identify pages that aren’t ranking well
  • Step 2: Categorize pages from step 1 into high priority and low priority
  • Step 3: See what pages on your sites have the most external backlinks
  • Step 4: Identify more pages from your site that could link to the high priority pages
  • Step 5: Build interlinks

This entire process takes less than 10 minutes to execute from scratch.

When you link to another page on your site, make sure that the page you’re linking to is relevant. Because if it’s not, blindly interlinking pages could be bad as well as it dilute the impact of interlinks.

Categorize your website into:

  1. Decentralized site (Sites like Pinterest)
  2. Centralized site (Sites like Hubspot)

Hubspot is an example of a centralized website because the purchase decisions happens on a limited set of pages(Product pages). Whereas on Pinterest, the engagement or signup can happen via any page.

If you’re building a centralized site, your interlinks have to strategically link to a couple selected Product/service pages. If you’re building a decentralized site, you may want to increase the number of links to category pages, relevant pages and pages with high SEO potential.

That’s all!

This should increase your SEO traffic significantly without you having to write any new content piece.

But before we leave, let’s summarize. Here’s what you can do in less than 30 minutes to increase your Organic traffic:

  1. Add more keywords to your meta title
  2. Leverage Google Search Console to find hidden gems and optimize your content around them
  3. Build interlinks to increase the value of high priority pages
