Believe in Yourself Not in Your List

Goodness.

I recall believing in my email inbox more than me.

Still judge my email a bit too much on some days.

Ditto for my email list.

The big, common, crippling mistake new bloggers, struggling bloggers and even successful bloggers cower to; email list worship.

Does it help to build a list? Sure. Convenience marketing. Easy for you to publish an update fast and for readers to get your update quickly and easily.

But believing in something outside of you more than believing in you leads to failure. Every time.

All outside of you changes. Heck; you change. Change is life’s constant.

Believing in the size and responsiveness of your email list hurts you because your faith rests in a house of cards.

Even if your list grows steadily it is subject to change. But your thoughts and feelings are *your* thoughts and feelings. You control your thoughts and feelings.

You cannot control:

  • other human beings who sign up for list emails
  • Aweber, Mail Chimp or Get Response
  • if folks junk or spam your emails
  • if people sign up for your list in the first place

The money is not in the list.

Money is in consciousness.

Tools and techniques, email lists and WordPress blogs, are tools reflecting back to you your belief in self and clarity in your intent.

Believe in You and the Outside World Gradually Reflects this Belief

My friend and super duper successful internet marketing Alonzo Pichardo stresses to believe in yourself first and foremost.

My wife Kelli Cooper explains how the tools, strategies and techniques you use merely reflect back to you your energy.

Live life inside-out.

The money is not in the list.

The money is in your belief, your clarity, and as you follow your fun, learn blogging, help folks and make friends – all because you believe in you, and feel clear on your intent to serve and detach some from outcomes – success finds you through appropriate channels.

I know online entrepreneurs who’ve earned hundreds of thousands of dollars without ever building a list. Zero subscribers. Yet, these individual’s profits approach millions of dollars.

Money is in consciousness.

The world’s richest people built billion dollar empires decades ago, in many cases, without the aid of an email list.

Money was in their consciousness. These billionaires practiced a skill, rendered useful service, built their friend network by generously serving powerful entrepreneurs and in time, money flowed in generously, in torrents. Not according to the size of their list, but because they helped people and built their friend network to epic scales.

Billionaires believe in themselves and not changing conditions, tools and techniques outside of themselves.

Their belief was constant, so billions eventually flowed in.

My Deal

I pay little attention to list building. But here I am, writing these words from a sleepy Thai village early in the morning, as exotic birds serenade me from the forest behind us. Yep; that’s me on the busy street where we’re living for 7 weeks as the featured image for this post.

Pretty sweet, eh? Especially for a guy with what most would consider to be a small list.

No sane human being only buys my courses, 126 eBooks, audio books, ad space, sponsored posts or anything I offer only if they see the link through the list.

I am literally in tens of thousands of places online through my prolific guest posting campaign, generous blog commenting campaign and through freely promoting influencers.

People buy my stuff and hire me and visit my blog through these tens of thousands of spots.

I am in that many spots because I do not fear being prolific, or giving freely, or writing nearly 500 guest posts on Blogging Tips.

I believe in myself.

Not in my list.

You should do the same.
