Call of Duty Modern Warfare has crashed for thousands of players on the new game’s launch night.
The new release has been blighted by Xbox and PS4 server issues across the UK and America, with Downdetector.net reporting thousands of outages.
The news has left gamers frustrated on the latest COD’s launch night – with many claiming their usual option to play offline and avoid server issues is missing.
An Activision Support message on Twitter reads: “We’re actively investigating an issue where some players are unable to connect to Modern Warfare. Stay tuned for updates.”
Another adds: “We are seeing a small number of Xbox One X players experience crashes with Modern Warfare.
“We are already working on a fix. Thanks for your patience and feedback.”
The gaming giant eventually confirmed: “We are continuing to investigate the issue related to the huge volume of new players connecting to Modern Warfare.
“Players that are in game should be able to continue playing without interruption. We will continue to provide updates as quickly as we can.”
Gamer DXG wrote: “This game has literally shut down my Xbox one x twice already, also this is the first any game has done that on my console.”
LemonODeath added: “This always happens with game releases, wouldve been nice to at least play the campaign.”
Mark Bennett said: “I have been clicking retry for over 1 hr now looks like time to go to bed and demand a refund if not sorted tomorrow and hope everyone else does, kick them where it hurts.”
Prolific wrote: “It’s been offline for me since literally release time at 7pm. They deserve no slack for this or other rookie screw ups.”
This newest title isn’t expected to be a direct continuation of the previous Modern Warfare games, but instead serves as a soft reboot with a new storyline.
However, some familiar faces and game modes from previous instalments are making a comeback.
