Google Search Ranking Algorithm Update Signals On Friday, February 22nd

Over the weekend I have been tracking a lot of chatter within the SEO community on WebmasterWorld and other channels of a Google update. Many of the automated tracking tools also show significant changes in the Google rankings starting on Friday, February 22nd through the weekend.

There seems to have been an update over the weekend although Google has not chimed in about any of the chatter and I am sure they will just tell us that this is same old same old.

Here is some of the chatter from the forums:

Anyone seeing any dramatic movement?

I’m bouncing around again – held 3rd pos after the last update and dropped to 9th today. The good thing is, I know I will back in 3rd pos by Monday!

Once again, Google’s SERPs are failing, and the updates and tests Google is making have still not resolved the problems of country-specific inaccuracies.

Seeing changes on both of my websites. They are not so big, but they are happening. Hoping that my content defends me from these updates, because right now the traffic decrease is not so catastrophic. Let’s see what will happen in the next few weeks.

Did anybody notice traffic increase/drops from the 22nd-23rd? I see movements on a few sites but cannot find much info online, although the SEM Rush sensor states there was movement.

I haven’t seen any dramatic changes, at least not for a prolonged period. Traffic from Google and other sources has been up a fair amount over the last couple of weeks (not up quite so much in the last couple of days), but I think that has more to do with seasonal demand than with rankings.

Here are the tools that track this, most are showing changes over the weekend.
