The municipality of Huron East has launched its Digital Main Street program.

Digital Service Squad member Kaleda Connell says the goal of the program is to increase the digital presence of all of the municipality’s small businesses to make it easier for potential customers to find them.

There are two phases to the Digital Main Street program.

“One is the phase with the one-on-one with me where we can talk about digital marketing tools that could be free, but once we talk about those free resources, there are some things that you can utilize and put a little bit of money behind that will get you found more easily.”

Connell says the second phase helps with that funding.

“There is is a 25-hundred dollar grant that you can apply for. It has to be applied for by the end of the year, so December 31st, and you can use the money for a new web site, or improve your search engine optimization so that you appear first on Google.”

Connell points out in this digital age it’s essential to be online, either on a web site or a number of social media sites.     She says people of all ages now go online when they’re looking for information, including products or services.
