As long as you write about your blogging niche you can write about anything.
Really.
Have you read a blogging lesson related to cat fights and poop? Probably not. I am keen on using analogies to drive home points.
Maybe you remember to embrace blogging obstacles and to network effectively if I write a bland, drab, 3rd person viewpoint post. All well and good.
But explaining how the cat we’re watching here in Thailand fights local cats, poops himself and drawing 2 blogging lessons from the experience shows you can literally write about anything if said topic aligns with your niche, and I know you will remember the lessons I share.
Writer’s Block
I get it guys.
Writer’s block hand cuffed me for many years. I had no blog post ideas. I rarely published content. Nothing moved for me. I struggled, then failed. Frustration set in. I wished to quit.
But I uncovered this truth; writing daily in a Word document just for practice helps ideas flow from mind, to fingers, to keyboard to WordPress backoffice, to published blog posts. Writing daily forms a writing habit. This is step 1 to become prolific and to defeat writer’s block.
Step 2? Increase your powers of observation. Learn how to watch life unfold before your eyes. Maybe cats and poop and fighting in Thailand ain’t in your experience now. But I betcha you can observe:
- reader problems
- commonly asked questions in your niche
- topics covered on top blogs in your niche
- life unfolding around you
if you take a minute, breathe deeply, relax, and learn how to watch.
Be a watcher. Be an observer. Writer’s block never holds observers captive.
The Truth
You can write about anything.
Just stay on topic and you’ll be fine.
Write about your blogging niche. Never confuse “anything” with “writing off topic.” I still share blogging tips via cat poop fight post above but cover it in creative fashion. Never went off topic though.
I came across an aspiring blogger recently. Said blogger felt excitement about covering their niche but mistakenly planned to cover a different niche when they ceased traveling.
Mistake-time. The world love specialists. The world does not love generalists so much because you cannot be good at 2 or more niches, because when top bloggers devote all of their blogging attention and energy to one niche, said top bloggers outshine you every time.
But on topic, and aligned with your niche, you can literally write about anything related to the niche. This truth dissolves writer’s block for good. No fear aka blocks arise for the open, abundant-feeling blogger intent on covering niches from different angles, view points or perspectives.
Fair Warning
Do not write solely about what readers want. Doing so handcuffs you. Blogging tips blogs become boring “5 Tips to Make Money Blogging” laden portals, bland, dull, lifeless.
Publish a “5 Tips to Make Money Blogging” post here and there. But tackle blogging issues in creative fashion to outshine folks in your niche. Doing so solves common problems but also adds a bit of entertainment and creative flair to the mix, and allows prospering post ideas to flow to you, dissolving writer’s block…..for good.
Tips for Embracing this Idea
Spend 20 minutes daily in complete observation of the world around you. Watch people. Observe behavior.
Park outside of a store. Do nothing but observe. Or watch nature, the perfect teacher.
Write 1000 words daily in a Word document. Trash the doc after hitting 1K words daily.
Surround yourself with creative dynamos. I remind you regularly – through my blog post topics and inspirational nudges – how you really can write about anything, save the topic relates to your blogging niche.
