Infinity War Rather Than Solo Film

A standalone Hulk movie starring Mark Ruffalo still seems unlikely but the actor said that the Green Avenger will have an arc starting in Thor: Ragnarok and leading into the Avengers films.

Ruffalo has revealed that with “Thor: Ragnarok” in a few weeks, his character will get plenty to do. Additionally it also serves as the first of three films in which Hulk gets a major arc which could effectively setup his own solo film. Ruffalo said Cinema Blend that the Hulk has plenty to do.

“So basically, Kevin [Feige] pulled me aside before this, and said, ‘If you were gonna do a… if we were going to do a standalone Hulk movie, what would it be?’ And I said, ‘I think it should be this, this, this, and this and this, and ends up like this.’ And he’s like, ‘I love that. Why don’t we do that in the next three movies, starting with Thor 3 and then we go into Avengers 3 and 4.’ And I was like, ‘That sounds great!’ And so we are at the beginning of this arc.”

Ruffalo wants to do a solo movie featuring the Hulk; however, Universal still owns the rights to the solo movies. Ruffalo does offer a hint at where the character will go with this story arc:

“Hulk speaking is the start of separating of these two individuals, these identities in this split-identity person, and where that’s going to end up going. So it was really interesting to me. He’s like a baby! He’s like a five year old or six year old. So he has the same syntax, he has the same world view, and so it was fun. It’s like Chris [Hemsworth] – we all got to reinvent our characters in this.”

Two new clips from the film have gone online, one involving the gladiator fight scene with Thor and Hulk while the other is a mostly improv scene with Hemsworth’s Thor and Waititi’s Korg character discussing Mjolnir. Additionally it has been confirmed the film boasts two post-credits scene – one that has some plot elements, the second is a straight up joke.

Thor: Ragnarok will feature the return of Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder himself, with Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Sir Anthony Hopkins again portraying Odin. Cate Blanchett plays the mysterious and powerful new villain Hela, Jeff Goldblum stars as the eccentric Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson will bring the classic hero Valkyrie to life on the big screen, and Karl Urban will add his might to the fray as Skurge.

Kevin Feige will produce the film, joined by executive producers Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Thomas M. Hammel and Stan Lee. The screenplay hails from Stephany Folsom, Craig Kyle, Eric Pearson and Christopher Yost. Current plans call for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Phase Three” chapter to shoot until October, although production could feasibly continue through the end of the year. Directed by Taika Waititi

“Thor: Ragnarok” opens in cinemas on November 3rd.
