iOS 13.1 Lowers Qi Charging Capacity on Some Chargers

Find your iPhone only taking 5W instead of the promised 7.5W on wireless charging? The hardware hasn’t changed; but rather a limit that’s imposed on the iOS 13.1.

Certain Qi chargers will now only deliver up to 5W on supported iPhones, including the iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS and the newly released iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 11 Pro.

A source mentioned that Qi charger products that are fully compliant with Apple’s guidance and specs should still have the capability to charge up to 7.5W. Manufacturers say that the Cupertino-based company has not provided directions so far, and some claim that meeting Qi certification requirements won’t necessarily mean getting 7.5W charging.

Charging Capacity

iPhone owners who have Anker, Mophie and Belkin chargers won’t be affected. Wireless pads that have fixed frequency voltage regulation will still have the 7.5W charging capacity in iOS 13.1, while others will be limited to just 5W.
