Syracuse, N.Y. — The Melting Pot, the restaurant chain that specializes in fondue, closed at Syracuse’s Destiny USA mall on Monday.
In an email to customers and a Facebook post, the chain said losses at the six-year-old restaurant were too great to continue. It held out the option of someday returning.
The company’s message:
“Valued fans, we regret to announce that The Melting Pot of Syracuse has closed for business indefinitely as of Monday, July 16 due to ongoing financial losses that are no longer sustainable.
“We appreciate the opportunity to have served the Syracuse community for over 6 years at this location. Thank you for your patronage.
“While there are no confirmed plans to re-open this location, The Melting Pot Restaurants Inc., has a strong interest to return to the Syracuse area in the future.”
The 192-seat restaurant opened on the first level of the mall’s Canyon area in 2012. It offered a full, four-course fondue meal, including dessert, prepared tableside by servers.
The first Melting Pot opened in April of 1975 in Maitland, Fla. The Melting Pot Restaurants Inc. was formed in 1985 to offer Melting Pot franchises throughout the country. In New York, the chain has locations in Albany, Buffalo, Farmingdale, Rochester and White Plains.
