New Chamber director sets big plans for 2019 | Opinion

I’d first like to extend my thanks to the Kalona business community for welcoming me into the position of Chamber of Commerce director.

Your suggestions and expertise have greatly supported me in the first couple months on the job. I look forward to continuing to find ways the Chamber can support your business.

The Kalona Chamber of Commerce is set to host great events in 2019, beginning with Kalona Days on June 15. This year we are introducing a few new activities, including a cornhole tournament and dunk tank and enhancing our annual festivities through a partnership with the city of Kalona.

We’re also debuting a traveling trophy that will be awarded to the best float in the Kalona Days parade as determined by a panel of judges. Every year a new (or repeat!) winner will be announced.

Completion of a pre-registration form for the 2019 parade is encouraged to help our volunteers plan for the event. We hope you join us this summer for a day full of family-friendly activities, good food, and live entertainment.

The Chamber is hosting nine luncheons during 2019. These events are sponsored by local businesses and cover a wide range of topics including emergencies and business continuity, search engine optimization, organ donation and more.

Luncheons are free to members and $7 for non-members. Stop by the Visitor’s Center for a full lineup and more details.

In addition to our annual events, the Chamber is excited to roll out several new programs in 2019 designed to expand support to local service businesses. We will keep you informed of these new opportunities as the programs are developed.
