Nintendo Direct Reveals ‘Overwatch,’ SNES Games, ‘Smash Bros.’ And More

As the Nintendo Switch becomes more popular, and Nintendo’s sole focus following the death of the 3DS, Nintendo Direct presentations become more packed with games coming to the handheld/home console hybrid. So enough of this pithy intro. Watch the latest Nintendo Direct right here!

What a lineup! Not that sure what else to add beyond just listing off the games we learned about. But that’ll take long enough we’ll be here for a while.

We saw more of Nintendo’s major holiday games like new features in Pokemon Sword and Shield as well as new multiplayer modes in Luigi’s Mansion 3. Animal Crossing: New Horizons saw a lengthy demonstration. Smaller Nintendo games got shout outs too like a new free-to-play Super Kirby Clash and Little Town Hero from Game Freak. We finally saw Banjo-Kazooie in action for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and learned that Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury is fighter number four while additional fighters are coming beyond the first promised five.

Old Nintendo games got some new love on Switch. Late period Wii U release, the Shin Megami Tensei/Fire Emblem mashup Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, is coming in January. Meanwhile the original Xenoblade Chronicles is getting totally remastered. And like we all hoped and suspected, Super Nintendo games are coming at no extra charge to Nintendo Switch Online. The first batch of twenty launch tomorrow and you can get replica SNES controllers, too.

This Direct continued the trend of cool big third-party surprises, too. The Overwatch leak was real. Ironic favorite Deadly Premonition is getting a sequel for some reason? Doom 64 and Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast return from their graves. More Assassin’s Creed games are coming in case The Witcher 3 isn’t enough huge open world game for you. And Return of the Obra Dinn is your next Switch indie darling.
