OnePlus 7T – New details revealed ahead of release date

Don’t hold your breath expecting a rollercoaster ride of surprise announcements during the OnePlus event today.

The Shenzhen-based company has revealed details about a next-generation charging solution that will be built into its new OnePlus 7T series smartphones, which are scheduled to be announced in India today. OnePlus is holding a separate event for the OnePlus 7T series in London on October 10, 2019.

In an interview with TechRadar, OnePlus confirmed its new handsets will sport Warp Charge 30T.

This new propriety technology is the follow-up to the Warp Charge 30 system found on the OnePlus 7 Pro, which topped-up the battery with enough power to last the day in half an hour. That already put OnePlus well ahead of its rival when in terms of charging speeds – save for Oppo’s SuperVOOC charging technology.

However, OnePlus hasn’t rested on its laurels – fitting for a company whose motto is “Never Settle”. Its new Warp Charge 30T technology will be 23 percent faster than its Warp Charge 30, it has confirmed.

OnePlus hasn’t revealed exactly how it has managed to make these gains. It confirmed to TechRadar its new Warp Charge 30T system uses the same 6A at 5V found on Warp Charge 30 for the OnePlus 7 Pro, suggesting the gains aren’t due to any design tweaks to the wall plug itself.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau revealed: “We believe that Warp Charge 30T offers the best charging solution for real-world usage.

“You can charge the phone at 23 percent faster speeds, even while using the device. Unlike most fast-charging solutions, Warp Charge 30 handles the power management inside of the power brick instead of inside the phone. This keeps the phone cool, allowing for fast charge rates even when the phone is in use.”

In the same interview, Pete Lau reaffirms OnePlus’ objections to wireless charging, so don’t hold your breath hoping for that feature to land with the OnePlus 7T series today.

OnePlus believes the slow charging speeds available with current wireless charging technology mean it’s better to focus on faster and faster wired charging instead. However, with more and more restaurants, bars and airports putting out wireless charging matts for depleted smartphone owners to use to top-up their battery in a bind without needing to carry around the cable or wall plug – wireless charging does offer some benefits that speedier fast charging can’t quite match.

Express.co.uk will be at the OnePlus 7T series launch in London next month, where the company is expected to unveil its OnePlus 7T, OnePlus 7T Pro, and (fingers crossed), OnePlus TV too.
