The Push Notification News Cycle? : marketing

I just read this piece in Adweek about presidential candidates using influencers to convert Gen Z. It’s a pretty interesting article, but what really caught my eye is the bit about the Push Notification News Cycle. https://www.adweek.com/brand-marketing/influencer-marketing-is-becoming-a-priority-for-political-candidates/

I’ve never heard this before, but apparently the “24-hour news cycle” is being replaced by the “Push Notification News Cycle.” Basically, instead of tuning into passive cable news when it becomes interesting, Gen Z waits until it gets push notifications from certain influencers or “newsfluencers” before tuning in.

This totally changes the power of media, particularly when it comes to politics and political marketing, as it puts so much more power in the hands of decentralized news curators and independent talking heads—e.g. Philip DeFranco or Ben Shapiro—instead of news channels.

Just wondering if anyone else has heard this, and if in your careers you’re planning to change marketing tactics for the push notification news cycle.
