Apple (APPL) CEO Tim Cook made an appearance at New York’s remodeled 5th Ave. store on Friday, which is situated underground beneath its iconic glass cube. This store has been closed since 2017 while Apple expanded and reworked its layout. Cook visited with Apple senior vice president of people and retail Deirdre O’Brien who helped opened the doors of the store promptly at 8 a.m., inviting fans who waited in line to tour the subterranean retail location and, for the just launched iPhone 11 series. After opening the doors, Cook made sure those same fans felt welcome by doling out high fives and, of course, selfies. After the opening festivities, Cook toured the displays, just like Apple co-founder Steve Jobs’ who appeared at the store’s grand opening in 2006.
Did you know that it’s also one of the most visited tourist spots in New York, surpassing both the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty? That’s right, approximately 57 million people passing through annually, according to Apple.
