U.S. Representative Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) breaking his silence after two investigators are found tortured and killed is fake news. There is no truth that Gowdy’s criminal investigation of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton resulted in two investigators having gone missing and later being found dead. Gowdy has been the subject of many fake news, tweets, photographs and memes.

Where did this fake news originate? WhatHappensintheUSA.com published the fake news article reporting that Gowdy broke his silence after two of his investigators were found tortured and killed during their criminal investigation of Clinton when they were their way to deliver a search warrant on the Clinton Presidential Library. You can read the fake news article below.

Two federalized deputies working for Trey Gowdy were discovered tortured and killed recently while on their way to serve a search warrant on the Clinton Presidential library. The details of the crime are sketchy but one thing is certain: whoever pulled it off is a pro who left absolutely no evidence behind.

Mr. Gowdy, who has had little to nothing to say on the matter for security reasons, released a statement from his office where he is currently holed up under the protection of US Marshals:

The incident in Arkansas is just the latest in a vast conspiracy to cover up crimes by one of the most corrupt families in human history. No, we have no evidence. There’s never any evidence. What we do have, however, is a mole. Someone inside my own committee cost those men their lives by leaking their travel plans. I intend to find out who that mole is and have them waterboarded as an enemy of the state until they give up their boss.

However, there is no truth to the above story. Politifact reported this story as false, noting that there is no evidence of anything like that happening in Little Rock, Ark., where the presidential library dedicated to former president Bill Clinton is located.

Gowdy, who previously announced his plan to retire earlier this year, was the former chairman of the House select committee investigating the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic properties in Benghazi, Libya, and Hillary Clinton’s response to the attacks as U.S. Secretary of State. The final Benghazi report was issued in 2016, and found no personal culpability on Clinton’s behalf.

Politifact also noted that there is no evidence that Gowdy made a statement about a “vast conspiracy.”
