Vice President Pence has dubbed a USA TODAY Sports report “fake news” as tensions simmer between the VP and Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon.
Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon’s agent said he was told Vice President Pence wanted to meet personally after USA TODAY reported that Rippon, who is openly gay, was critical of Pence.
Why should the vice president give this immature, self-centered guy the time of day? Ignore and move on. Pence, you have bigger and more important fish to fry!
— Dina Kirkconnell
Pence has not earned the privilege of speaking privately with Rippon! Pence has made his stance on the gay community crystal clear through his rhetoric and Indiana’s legislation. Hats off to Rippon’s courage in rebuffing Pence!
— Brenda Kjar
There is no excuse for Rippon being so rude. He isn’t being righteous or brave. He has an opportunity to meet with someone he disagrees with and discuss solutions, yet he chooses to act like a whiny brat.
— Benita Bramer
Pence is very much anti-gay. Pence might call this “fake news,” but it is well documented. Rippon is a modern-day hero. I hope he wins the gold!
— Ellen Libman
Typical of this administration. Be openly and proudly bigoted and hateful, then blame those who call you out.
— Robert Andrew Colmant
Rippon’s the only athlete who doesn’t deserve a medal. Athletes are supposed to be good role models.
— David Morford
Rippon doesn’t owe anyone anything. He isn’t anyone’s proxy to promote any specific social agenda. I hope he does extremely well in his competition, and then I hope he gives Pence a real piece of his mind. We shouldn’t be compromising or cooperating with those who promote discrimination. We need to shut them down without hesitation.
— Jeff Frohwein
