Victor Garber Exits DC’s Legends of Tomorrow To Join Bernadette Peters In Broadway’s ‘Hello, Dolly!’

Victor Garber is leaving “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” on CW. The show has previously seen a few casting changes each season. Now, Garber has confirmed that he is departing the series sometime during the current third season which launched this week.

Garber has played Professor Martin Stein since the show’s beginning and appeared prior to that on “The Flash.” In both instances he was half of the superhero ‘Firestorm’ – merging first with Robbie Raymond (Robbie Amell) and on ‘Legends’ with Jefferson Jackson (Franz Drameh).

Garber is returning to Broadway to team with Bernadette Peters for the Tony-winning revival of “Hello, Dolly!.” This duo is replacing David Hyde Pierce and Bette Midler. Their first show is on January 20th.

Garber’s exit from the show has reportedly been planned well in advance and will be incorporated into the plot of season three. Unlike other cast members, like Wentworth Miller’s Leonard Snart who recurred last season, there’s currently no plans for Garber to be in the fourth season.

Garber remains listed as a series regular but it is unclear how long he will be on the show this season.

“Arrow” and “The Flash” have some new superhero company in the CW’s lineup with the addition of “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.” After seeing what doom the future holds, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter realizes heroes alone are not enough to prevent the impending catastrophe that threatens not only the planet, but all of time itself. Tasked with recruiting both heroes and villains, Rip brings together a ragtag team of divergent talents, which includes the likes of Sara Lance, Ray Palmer, and Heat Wave.

The season 3 premiere of Legends revealed that Stein’s daughter Lily was expecting a child. Even so, Stein decided to stay with the Legends, promising to return for the birth of his granddaughter. The next episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is titled “Freakshow” and will air Tuesday, October 17. It is officially described as follows:

“The Legends find themselves in 1870 to fix the anachronism which happens to be at P.T. Barnum’s fledgling circus. However, Nate and Ray accidentally free a saber toothed tiger, creating a bigger problem. Meanwhile, P.T. Barnum (guest star Billy Zane) is on the hunt to capture Nate and Ray to make his show even more exciting for the crowd.”

Keith Tancharoen directed the episode, which was written by Keto Shimizu & Grainne Godfree.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow also stars Brandon Routh, Arthur Darvill, Caity Lotz, Ciarra Renee, Nick Zano, and Dominic Purcell. Based on the characters from DC, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, Phil Klemmer and Sarah Schechter.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
