Reports that Netflix is planning a reboot of “The Addams Family” television series are false. While a convincing preview video seems to signal a creepy and kooky return, it is nothing more than a viral fan-made teaser trailer.
According to Snopes, the fan-made trailer went viral in April after “Netflix Geeks” shared it on Facebook. The video, which has been viewed more than 12 million times, was not marked as fan-made in the caption, which contained only the name of the series and a promising “looks good!”. Many commenters suggested their dream cast, including Oscar Isaac as Gomez, while others pointed out that it was not a genuine Netflix series. “That would have been brilliant,” one person wrote. “Make it real.”
The fan-made teaser trailer was originally shared to YouTube. Using clips from the actual “Addams Family” television series, “Crimson Peak,” “Penny Dreadful” and more, video creator Alexia Bertha explained that she “used the Netflix logo to attract the attention of viewers and Netflix itself”—not in an effort to deliberately falsify the video. Given the success with other Netflix reboots, the hope was that the classic series would make a mysterious return.
