As I stare down at the traffic here in NYC some 36 stories above Manhattan – the featured image above is the view we are enjoying for a few days – I recall some lean days online.
Nearly a decade ago I received 3 visitors a day to my blog.
The current day me attracts a few more visitors than three a day to Blogging From Paradise.
I learned how to overcome blogging struggles in the traffic department and want to help you dissolve your frustrations so you can increase your blog traffic too.
1: Take a Deep Breath and Regroup
Nothing good happens when you blog from a frustrated, agitated space of “not enough”.
Take a deep breath. Embrace your feelings of disgust or frustration. Pivot, by releasing these feelings and moving toward the remaining steps.
Working harder only makes things harder on yourself. Working smarter is not necessarily the answer, because you can’t fool your overall energy. Clearing your fears, and frustrations, about lacking blog traffic, is the most direct way to move forward from the proper energy.
2: Decide to Blog Mainly for Fun not for Things
All traffic struggles occur when you blog mainly to get versus blogging to give.
If you blog predominantly to get money or traffic you will not give enough effort, value, help and positive energy to drive steady traffic to your blog.
Giving precedes getting.
One way to become a generous giver is to blog mainly for fun, with love.
I have written and self-published 126 eBooks and have also written and published over 1,000 guest posts because I am largely free of the outcomes-based fears plaguing most bloggers.
This is because I blog mainly for fun, not stuff. I blog with love, intending primarily to help folks and only a little part of me focuses on traffic or income outcomes.
Naturally, I am pretty prolific dude who has built a neat life for himself through blogging, circling the globe, because I make my blogging work day mainly about giving, and as my giving expands, my getting (money, traffic, etc) becomes easier and easier.
3: Write 1000 Words Daily in a Word Document for Practice
Write 1000 words daily in a Word document to gain confidence and clarity in your writing.
After you hit the 1K each day, delete the document. Detach some from your writing.
Writing daily just for practice turns you into a skilled, clear blogger who freely drives blog traffic.
Skilled writers also land guest post opportunities (tip #4) easily.
Don *not* skip this tip. Most bloggers struggle horribly because they only write when they publish a blog post.
Imagine if Lebron James only practiced basketball during NBA games? Or imagine if Ronaldo only practiced soccer during La Liga games?
Both of these guys practice tirelessly when nobody is watching to become the best in the world at what they do.
Practice in quiet. Then when the lights shine bright, you will succeed in driving increasing traffic to your blog.
4: Guest Post on Top Blogs from Your Niche
Guest post on top blogs from your niche to boost blog traffic.
If you can’t seem to drive traffic to your blog it’s time to post on other blogs.
Build bonds with top bloggers through blog commenting (see below), by featuring them on your blog and by promoting them.
Over a period of weeks and months, as these bonds strengthen, many bloggers will invite you to guest post for them.
Tap into the power of leveraging.
Publish helpful guest posts on rocking blogs related to your niche.
5: Blog Comment Effectively on Top Blogs from Your Niche
Blog comment effectively on top niche blogs.
Publish 3-4 paragraph, in-depth, personalized comments on popular blogs from your niche.
Drive traffic and build friendships with established bloggers. These friendships lead to increased traffic over the long haul.
Be persistent. Traffic will flow in steadily through blog comments if you comment at least 1-2 times weekly on top blogs.
Think more like writing a mini guest post and less like writing a blog comment.
