Disney Remaking ‘Bedknobs and Broomsticks’ with Kate Winslet Is A Hoax

An image purportedly showing the poster for a remake of Disney’s “Bedknobs and Broomsticks” starring Kate Winslet is fake. In addition to the fact that a new version of the 1971 fantasy film is not currently in the works, the viral photo is actually a fan-made advertisement.

According to Snopes, the photo was shared on Rupaul’s Drag Race Family Facebook page with the caption, “Kate Winslet is set to take the role of Eglantine Price is Disneys BIG BUDGET remake of the 1971 film Bedknobs and Broomsticks.” The image, which features the Academy Award-winning actress and the tagline, “Journey into Enchantment,” was shared more than 80,000 times and received over 50,000 comments—many of which questioned why the movie was being modernized. The classic movie, however, is not being remade with Winslet, James McAvoy or any other actors. The poster is not real.

The fan-made poster used a Photoshopped image of Winslet to make it appear more genuine. As some social media users pointed out, the hair was actually taken from Dolores Umbridge, a character from the “Harry Potter” series. Additionally, the hands in the fake movie poster look completely different. Disney has not announced that they are remaking the 1971 musical film, which starred Angela Lansbury and David Tomlinson.

Disney’s upcoming live-action films include “The Nutcracker and The Four Realms,” “Mary Poppins Returns” and “Artemis Fowl,” while future live-action remakes include “Aladdin,” “The Lion King” and “Mulan.” Disney’s live-action remakes of animated classics have proven successful at the box office over the last couple of years.
