iPhone 6 Value About To Plumet

You either love them or hate them but you cannot deny Apple changed the smartphone industry when they first launched. The iPhone models are into double figures, as is the iOS operating system. The latest version iOS 13, is due for release next month and we’ve been told that this new version will not be compatible with iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. As these models will not be compatible with the latest update, the resale price could drop to as low as £50 after the update.

Mobile phone comparison site, Compare & Recycle, is warning of a big drop in recycling prices for iPhones 6 and 6 Plus following the release of new iOS 13 this September. They are advising iPhone 6 and 6 Plus owners not to miss out on August’s resale price surge and is encouraging those who want to get the best price possible for their old iPhone 6 to trade in before the new iOS rolls out.

They estimate that prior to the iOS 13 release resale prices for the iPhone 6 could top out at £100 depending on capacity and reach the pinnacle of £120 for iPhone 6 Plus models, depending on capacity. Historic data shows that immediately after older iPhones lose their iOS support, recycling prices decline by up to £5 daily and are likely to lose a further 30% of their value by Christmas. After losing iOS support, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus phones are likely to depreciate by up to 60% in total over the next few years.

Matthew Moreton, Managing Director at Compare and Recycle, explains: “The release of iOS 13 means one thing for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus resale prices: they will be at their highest prior the roll out and if you miss the opportunity to grab the best deal you risk losing a fair amount of cash.”

“So if you are looking to upgrade your iPhone 6, make sure you don’t miss the boat and compare recycling prices online to lock-in the highest deal.”

I have an iPhone 7, so that leaves me with 1 year to sell up and upgrade, or perhaps even go to Android…
