Jason Momoa Starring In ‘God Of War’ TV Series Coming To Netflix Is Fan Art, Not Actual Promotion

Netflix is not developing a television series for “God of War.” There is no truth that the popular action-adventure, hack and slash, mythology-based video game series would be having a TV series appearing on July 15 on the streaming service. Rather, the entire confusion originated with fan art. You can’t blame the excitement, “God of War” has sold 3.1 million copies in just three days, according to a new Sony blog post.

However, the above image claiming that “God of War” would be coming to Netflix this summer is false. Where did the fan art originate? The above image was posted to a Facebook fan page for “God of War.” What soon followed was confusion on social media as people shared the image with uncertainty about its claim. Here are some examples of people sharing the fan art on social media with the false claim.

However, there is no truth that Netflix would be producing a series. Snopes reported that there was an obvious lack of any announcements from Netflix with regards to turning the popular video game into a series. Rather, their research broke down how the fan art is a composite of an actual image of Kratos, the main character in the God of War video game and Momoa from his role as Aquaman in DC’s Justice League.

There is also no record of Momoa being attached to any project called “God of War” on his IMDb. However, Momoa did express interest in playing Kratos for “God of War.” Fans can remember Momoa as Khal Drogo for Game of Thrones. In old interview prior to him appearing in the first season of “Game of Thrones, Momoa said, “Hell yeah!” to the possibility of playing Kratos so there is still hope for fans.

A further confusing aspect to the above fan art is that Netflix does have a film called “God of War” in its lineup. This is not a movie featuring Kratos or any mythology within the game series though. Game Tryant noted that this is a Chinese film originally titled Dang Kou Feng Yun, which is a story set during the Ming Dynasty covering both war and piracy, starring Wenzhou Zhao, Regina Wan, and Sammo Kam-Bo Hung.

What did you think of the fan art showing Momoa appearing in a television series of “God of War” for Netflix? Were you disappointed to learn that the video game will not be adapted to Netflix? Would you like to see a show of the game and who would you like to see star in it? Let us know in the comments section.
