Wonder Bread CEO Cutting Ties With NRA, Conservative Companies Is A Satirical Meme

The chief executive officer of Wonder Bread cutting ties with the National Rifle Association and other conservative companies is a satirical meme. There is no truth behind a meme claiming that bread company’s CEO had made the decision to terminate relationships with the NRA and other conservative companies following the most recent high school shooting.

Where did this satirical meme originate? The America’s Last Line of Defense posted the false meme on May 21, 2018, asserting that the CEO of Flower Foods, which is the parent company of Wonder Bread, announced that his company ceased dealing with the NRA and other conservative companies.

The meme read:

“CEO of Flower Foods, (Wonder Bread) Lamont Cranston: ‘We have ceased any dealings with the N.R.A. as well as all other conservative companies. We feel America’s children are more important than gun wielding maniacs.”

However, there is no truth to the above meme. For one, thing there has been no official press release from Flower Foods. Additionally, the CEO of Flower Foods is named Allen L. Shiver, not “Lamont Cranston.” Finally, and most importantly, America’s Last Line of Defense clearly provides a disclaimer outlining its satirical intentions to its readers:

“Nothing on this page is real. It is a collection of the satirical whimsies of liberal trolls masquerading as conservatives. You have been warned.”

However, some people took the meme as real and posted some responses to it on America’s Last Line of Defense’s Facebook page. Here are some examples of people not getting the joke on social media.

Rather, the meme is playing off the recent high school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas. Eight students and two teachers were tragically shot and killed when 17-year-old Dimitrios Pagourtzis allegedly burst into an art room with a shotgun and a .38-caliber revolver, both of which appear to be legally owned by his father. Thirteen others were wounded. The debate on gun control continues.

The National Rifle Association is America’s foremost defender of Second Amendment rights. We’re proud protectors of history’s patriots – advocating the right to keep and bear arms, advancing the shooting sports and championing gun safety, education and training.
